Hey College Corner!

As a dedicated educator with twenty years of classroom experience and a Ph.D. in Near Eastern Archaeology, I understand that our children's success depends on more than just textbooks and test scores—it requires a true partnership between schools, families, and community. Having served our country in combat and spent decades inspiring students from high school to university level, I've learned that excellence flourishes when we bring people together around a shared mission. That's why I'm running for School Board: to champion transparency in our district's decisions, foster meaningful parental involvement in our children's education, and relentlessly pursue academic excellence for every student. Together, we can build an educational environment where parents are valued partners, where accountability guides our choices, and where every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential. Let's work hand-in-hand to create the schools our community deserves.

Policy Priorities

1. Transparency

As public servants, the College Corner LSD Board of Education must be completely open and honest about its actions. This isn't to say that our board is dishonest, but rather that our processes lack transparency. How is our money being spent? Are tax dollars being wasted? It’s difficult to know when key decisions happen in private. We must make all financial and procedural information easily accessible to the public.

  • Accessible Financial Reports: I will work to make all financial reports and budgets easily accessible online, so the community can see how tax dollars are being used.

  • Open Meeting Policy: I will advocate for a policy that requires all board meetings to be held in a publicly accessible location, ensuring space for all interested community members.

  • Timely Information Release: I will ensure that meeting minutes and agendas are published promptly, giving parents and community members the opportunity to stay informed.

2. Parental Involvement

Hand-in-hand with transparency is empowering parents to be actively involved. How can parents participate if they have nowhere to sit? Ohio-side School Board meetings are often held in a small, locked room. Parents are a child's first and most important educators. They should not only be able to attend and hear what's happening, but they should also feel encouraged to make their voices heard. It is the duty of College Corner LSD Board members to listen to those concerns and carry them to the Joint UC/CC Board of Education meetings. We can't fulfill our duty if we can't hear you.

  • Adequate Meeting Space: I will advocate for holding all meetings in a venue that can comfortably accommodate all interested parents and community members.

  • Direct Feedback Channels: I will establish a clear, accessible channel for parents to submit their questions and concerns directly to board members.

  • Regular Community Engagement: I will commit to listening to direct feedback from the community and ensure their voices are heard.

3. Academic Excellence

With a Ph.D. in a scientific field, I believe my experience provides a unique understanding of what students need to thrive. For me, academic excellence is not just a buzz phrase; it's a commitment to providing tangible support for every student. This includes:

  • Investing in Modern Resources: We must provide teachers and students with the most current academic materials, from modern textbooks to advanced technology, to keep our curriculum relevant and engaging.

  • Targeted Support for All Learners: Academic excellence is inclusive. This means ensuring that students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and other special needs receive the specific support, resources, and trained staff they require to reach their full potential.

  • Promoting STEM and Critical Thinking: My background in science has taught me the importance of fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills. I will advocate for strong STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) programs to prepare our students for the future.
